As an effort to expand the network to develop scientific benefits to the wider community, the Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR), Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta opens itself to various potential collaborations with various parties. One of them is cooperation with the Archaeology Center (Balar) Yogyakarta by involving civitas academica to apply their knowledge for the development of cultural and historical preservation.
Cooperation began between the Film and Television Study Program and the Yogyakarta Archaeology Center in Balar's "Rumah Peradaban" activities, namely in the form of activities Workshop Audio Visual Rumah Peradaban which was held at the Pleret Site, Bantul, for high school students by involving several lecturers and students of Film and Television Study Program. In fact, on Friday (21/2/20) Film and Television Study Program, Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR), Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta held a public lecture with the Head of the Archaeology Center of Yogyakarta Special Region Province, Mr. Drs. Sugeng Riyanto, M.Hum. This public lecture is a continuation of cooperation between FSMR ISI Yogyakarta and Balar. The participants of the public lecture were FSMR Film and Television Study Program students, also attended by the Head of the Film and Television Study Program, Agnes Widyasmoro, S.Sn, M.A., along with several lecturers from the Film and Television Study Program, FSMR ISI Yogyakarta. The public lecture material presented was about the culture of the archipelago in an archaeological perspective.
While on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 in the Dean's Meeting Room, FSMR, ISI Yogyakarta, talks about the concept of cooperation continued by cooperating with the D3 Animation Study Program and the Photography Study Program. The planned collaboration program with the D3 Animation Study Program is the creation of educational products in the form of animated films about the Liyangan Site with the D3 Animation Study Program. Liyangan is a village or hamlet, located on the slopes of Mount Sindoro, whose condition when it was discovered was buried by material from the eruption of Mount Sindoro. The movie is planned to be made inlaunching in September 2020 as an activity program of Rumah Peradaban. Rumah Peradaban has three activities, namely Education, Educational Products, and Educational Enrichment Books, which aim to educate the public and reconstruct the Liyangan site in accordance with the civilization at that time.
Furthermore, Yogyakarta Archaeological Center also invited the Photography Study Program to collaborate in a photography and photo archiving training program for the staff of Yogyakarta Archaeological Center. In the field of photo documentation, Yogyakarta Archaeology Center has experienced difficulties due to its vast area covering Yogyakarta, East Java, and Central Java, so it requires a team that has good photography skills. Documenting activities and historical sites in the work area of the Yogyakarta Archaeology Center is important because the results will be used as evidence and study material for policies for maintaining and developing historical sites. According to a researcher at the Yogyakarta Archaeology Center, Putri Taniardi, M.Hum., the annual documentation program requires a lot of photographers due to the various locations of historical site discoveries spread across several regions. In addition, Yogyakarta Archaeology Center must also have good photos, because they will be used as research archives.
For FSMR, the cooperation program is very beneficial for both institutions and civitas academica. The hope is that later the students will also have the opportunity to do Practical Work at the Yogyakarta Archaeology Center so that they will gain new experiences, knowledge, and new insights about culture, history, and archaeology, and can apply their knowledge well. The Dean of FSMR ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn, stated that this cooperation program is a tangible manifestation of the use of science to the wider community. He hopes that the products produced later can be a means of developing science in general and become an educational archive for the management and preservation of historical sites in Indonesia.
