Yogyakarta, October 28, 2024 - The Photography Study Program of the Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR) ISI Yogyakarta held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled "Problem Solving Based Lecturer Training" in the framework of the Merdeka Campus Competition Program (PKKM) to improve the effectiveness of classroom teaching. Located in classroom 5, this activity was attended by 12 lecturers and guided by Fitri Alfariz, S.Fil., M.Phil., lecturer in Philosophy UGM, who shared his experiences in applying problem-solving techniques in teaching.
This activity is designed to introduce lecturers to a problem-solving-based learning approach, which is considered to make students more active and creative in understanding the material being taught. This method invites lecturers to create classroom scenarios that facilitate students in solving real problems, so that learning becomes more relevant to conditions in the workplace.
The event began with registration at 08.00 WIB and continued with remarks and the official opening at 08.30 WIB. In the presentation session, Fitri Alfariz explained that the problem-solving method emphasizes the role of lecturers as facilitators, not just as material providers. "Lecturers play a role in helping students develop a critical mindset and systematic way of thinking in solving problems," said Fitri Alfariz.
The session continued with group discussions that encouraged active participation from each lecturer. They shared their experiences and challenges encountered in teaching, and sought solutions to implement problem-solving approaches in the classroom. Various creative ideas were proposed, including the integration of photographic case studies and project simulations that match the world of work.
At the end of the event, the lecturers agreed that this method opens up opportunities for collaboration between lecturers to develop more innovative learning strategies. FSMR ISI Yogyakarta is optimistic that through this activity, the teaching process in the Photography Study Program will be more relevant to industry needs, producing graduates who are not only experts in the field of photography but also have qualified problem-solving skills.
