Alternative Photographic Processes (APHIC) Week
Marking the end of the lecture process of Old Print Photography Course, Photography Study Program, Faculty of Recording Media Arts, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta, has organized an Exhibition Alternative Photographic Process Week (APHIC) 2019 at Jogja National Museum on December 26-31, 2019. The exhibition, which is a presentation of the learning outcomes of the 3rd semester students (class of 2018), was opened on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at 19.00 WIB by Dr. Mikke Susanto, M.Sn.
After a series of learning processes, discussions, and artistic explorations, the students managed to realize a variety of interesting works. But to maintain quality and teach about the process of a good exhibition, the students were also invited to go through a curation process by Curators Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. and Novan Jemmi Andrea, M.Sn. who finally selected 74 authors to exhibit their works. "The APHIC WEEK exhibition is an accumulation of the Old Print Photography learning process that aims to equip students with special skills that distinguish them from graduates of other photography education institutions. This course contains a special and distinctive "science of photography" that characterizes the civitas academica in the Photography Study Program, FSMR, ISI Yogyakarta." Said Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn.
The title "APHIC WEEK" used in this exhibition is a representation of the learning process about old printing techniques, which were invented in the 19th and 20th centuries. In this course, students are invited to learn various printing techniques using various tools and chemicals. Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn., emphasized that in order to present this exhibition, the students had to learn old printing techniques such as cyanotypes, vandyke brown print (VDB), gum bichromate, and even the latest carbon transfer print, dryplate, and gumoilThis is a course that requires special understanding and attention. The lecture process is dynamic, challenging students to always actively explore new possibilities that can be realized through the creation of works using old printing techniques.
During the exhibition, there were also a series of events such as Artist Talk with the artist and Terasharing on Friday, December 27, 2019, at 16.00 WIB, at the Galleri Room of Jogja National Museum. Other events include Talkshow "The Creative Process of Art" presented by Mr. Drs. Alexandri Lutfhi R, M.S. was held on Friday, December 27, 2019, at 19.00 WIB, in the Galleri Room of Jogja National Museum. Furthermore, a panel discussion by SOKONG, KOPPI (old family photography process ISI Yogyakarta), and Afdruk 56, on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at 3:30 pm. As an important part of the spirit of sharing knowledge and experience about old prints, a workshop was also held. Cyanotype and Gum Bichromate on Saturday, December 28 and Sunday, December 29, 2019, at 11:00 am by KOPPI, at the Galleri Room of Jogja National Museum.
