The national-level online seminar with the theme 'Intellectual Property Protection of Digital Creative Works' was organized by MMTC Yogyakarta Multi Media College, supported by Amikraf and FSMR ISI Yogyakarta. In this webinar, Prof. Dr. Ahmad M. Ramli, SH. MH. FCB. Arb (Professor of the Faculty of Law, UNPAD), Ir. Noor Iza, M.Sc. (Chairperson of STMM Yogyakarta), James F. Sundah (Musician / LMKN Commissioner), and Ari Prasetyowati S.H., LL.M. (FTV Lecturer, FSMR ISI Yogyakarta). This event was moderated by Anisti, S.Sos., M.I.Kom. (Head of Communication Science Study Program of BSI University).
The event, which took place through the Zoom application, was held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 09.00 - 12.00 WIB. On this occasion, musician Sam Bimbo also provided entertainment by singing his songs to entertain the participants. The event was interactive with many weighty questions asked by several participants.
As the first speaker who had the opportunity to deliver his presentation, Prof. Dr. Ahmad M. Ramli, SH. MH. FCB. Arb, delivered his material related to the actual issues of copyright. He talked about the importance of protecting the copyright of a creative work. Copyright itself can be related to the economic rights and moral rights of the work produced. Copyright or often referred to as copyright It protects the work of a person, or a group of people in society. Copyright related to individuals, related to exclusive rights, time period, and royalties that can be given to the creator of the work. Copyright can also be related to communal copyright, which is in the form of traditional cultural expressions that also need to be protected, although there is currently no bill that has been realized.
Ari Prasetyowati S.H., LL.M., Lecturer from Film and Television Study Program, Faculty of Recording Media Arts (FSMR) ISI Yogyakarta, also delivered her presentation related to the protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of digital creative works. He said that the relationship between IPR and digital creative works is very close and important. These digital creative works are related to films, YouTube content, TV programs, music, applications / apps.software, game, advertising, and journals Online. All of these works are digital creative industries developed from a person's creativity and inventiveness combined with digital elements. These intellectual works come from human thoughts or ideas, which are then processed with deep thought, before becoming a creative work. It is these ideas and concepts that must be respected and protected. For this reason, creators must also be aware of registering their creative works to be protected by IPR.
On that occasion, Ari Prasetyowati S.H., LL.M. also delivered material related to the purpose of protecting Intellectual Property Rights and the importance of intellectual work that must be appreciated. One of the objectives to protect intellectual work is to provide legal protection and provide legal clarity between creators, copyright owners, users, intermediaries, and so on. The importance of intellectual work should be appreciated, also intended for the protection of reputation for copyright owners, if there are other parties who use the work. Therefore, creative creators are encouraged to register Copyright, by submitting an application to the Directorate General of IPR, through processes such as examination of formalities, creation registration letters, which are then announced in the general register of creations. As by its nature, Copyright is declarative, which is the announcement of a work to the public, so that everyone knows that the work is copyrighted and not misused.
The next speaker, James S. Sundah as Musician/Commissioner of LMKN, revealed his presentation themed "Jaman Crazy Jayabaya's "prophecy" analysis. He conveyed the philosophy of the times crazy with the development of digitalization in this day and age which also raises the intersection of disrupting technology. Digitalization will inevitably intersect with issues of creative economy, new formats of digital works, intellectual property, telematics information, and culture.
In closing, the Chairman of STMM Yogyakarta, Ir. Noor Iza, M.Sc. gave a brief summary of the speakers' presentation and gave appreciation for the presentation of each speaker, and reiterated the importance of IPR protection. He said that the material presented was very insightful. He also talked about how the younger generation can develop soft skills digital creative works to welcome the digital era.
