FILM STUDY SESSION PRESENTS LECTURERS FROM FSMR ISI YOGYAKARTA AT FFPJ XVI 2025

Yogyakarta – Two lecturers from the Faculty of Visual Communication Design (FSMR) at ISI Yogyakarta, Pius Rino Pungkiawan, M.Sn., and Ghalif Putra Sadewa, M.Sn., served as speakers at the "Film Study Seminar in Higher Education," held at the Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) Yogyakarta campus on September 14, 2025. This event was part of the XVI Jogja Student Film Festival (FFPJ) 2025.

This seminar discusses the importance of film studies in higher education for high school/vocational school students attending as nominees for the 16th FFPJ. The event aims to provide perspective, exchange ideas, and information about the world of film studies, as well as broaden the horizons of festival participants.

The main theme of FFPJ XVI 2025, “Gugur Gunung,” forms the basis of the discussion. This year's festival is expected to be a space for learning, sharing, and fostering relationships across schools and disciplines. The spirit of mutual cooperation should not only apply to film production but also to daily life.

In his presentation, Pius Rino Pungkiawan emphasized the importance of narration in the film production process. According to him, the ability to tell ideas to others is an important part of production and serves as an initial indicator in film studies at the university level. “In terms of storytelling, the more we understand something (an idea/concept), the easier it is for us to convey it to the audience simply,” he said.

She also added that film studies are not solely about the type of camera used, but about understanding the purpose of the theme and story being created. “The technical aspects are, of course, just one slice of a larger process,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Ghalif Putra Sadewa stated that film studies in higher education is the initial process of getting to know the film world comprehensively. “Advanced film studies in higher education means we are preparing ourselves to begin the actual initial process of getting to know the film world itself, from production, analysis, to collaboration,” said Ghalif.

This seminar enriches the insights of the FFPJ XVI participants, preparing them to continue their film studies and develop their visual storytelling skills. With this initial preparation, participants are expected to be more confident in producing creative works and collaborating across disciplines.

FFPJ XVI 2025 is an annual event showcasing the works of high school/vocational high school students from all over Indonesia. This festival combines film screenings, workshops, discussions, and seminars as a collaborative learning space for the younger generation.
