"KICK-STARTING YOUR CAREER IN CREATIVE INDUSTRY" MASTER CLASS AS PART OF THE AGENDA OF THE AUSTRALIA INDONESIA CINEMA FESTIVAL (FSAI) IN THE FILM AND TELEVISION STUDY PROGRAM

The Australia Indonesia Film Festival (AIFFA) 2020 is a celebration of creativity and diversity in the Australian and Indonesian film industries. AIFFA 2020 is the fifth installment held in 6 major cities, namely Jakarta (February 14-16, 2020), Surabaya (February 15, 2020), Makassar (February 15, 2020), Mataram (February 15-16), Bandung (February 21-22, 2020), and for the first time in Yogyakarta (February 28-29, 2020).

“Film is a"”can windows into other cultures and our choices of Australian and Indonesian films by Australian alumni provide insight into the creativity and diversity of our two countries," said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Gary Quinlan.

FSAI 2020 did not only screen films produced in Australia and Indonesia. One of the series of activities in FSAI 2020 was a Master Class featuring speakers from Deakin University, Australia. The FSAI 2020 Master Class session in Yogyakarta was held at the ISI Yogyakarta campus on Friday, February 28, 2020. The Master Class took place in Studio 1 of the Film and Television Study Program and was attended by film students from ISI Yogyakarta and several film communities in Yogyakarta.

The Masterclass was scheduled to feature Simon Wilmot, Associate Head of School of Communications and Creative Arts, Faculty of Arts and Education, Deakin University. However, due to health reasons, Mr. Simon was unable to attend and was replaced by Nicholas Aristia. Nicholas is a graduate of Film and TV from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.

Also attending were Lydia Trotter from the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Lina Darliana, Country Manager of Deakin University, and Agnes Widyasmoro, Head of the Film and Television Study Program at ISI Yogyakarta. The Master Class, titled “Kick-Starting Your Career in the Creative Industry,” was moderated by Pius Rino Pungkiawan, Director of Photography and also a lecturer in Cinematography at ISI Yogyakarta.

Nicholas Aristia is a Director of Photography and the CEO and Founder of KreatifHub. KreatifHub is an innovative networking platform for creative professionals and talented individuals across Indonesia to connect and engage with each other to achieve project opportunities in the creative industry. KreatifHub focuses on the film, media, television, theater, music, animation, dance, and fashion industries.

According to Nicholas, the initial idea to build KreatifHub stemmed from his perspective as a filmmaker, believing that no matter how talented a filmmaker is, they won't succeed without connections and networks. Building a career in film or the creative industry must start with connections and networks.

“Indonesia still needs a lot of human resources. Building connections and networks is very important in the creative industry. KreatifHub is a solution to bring creative industry human resources closer to their market,” said Nicholas.

The Master Class lasted approximately 120 minutes, including a discussion session, starting at 2:00 PM and ending precisely at 4:00 PM Western Indonesian Time. Some of the Master Class participants had the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony of FSAI 2020 Yogyakarta by Mr. Allaster Cox, Deputy Ambassador of Australia to Indonesia, at CGV Hartono Mall Yogyakarta. The opening film screened was titled “Top End Wedding,” a 113-minute romantic comedy directed by Wayne Blair, which won an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award. (AF)
