Yogyakarta, July 22, 2024 - Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta is proud to announce the implementation of the International Symposium on Photography entitled "Photography: Art and Society" which will be held on July 22, 2024 at the Concert Hall ISI Yogyakarta.
The symposium will be opened by the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi S.Sn, M.Sn, who also acts as the keynote speaker. The event will feature five renowned speakers from different parts of the world and backgrounds of expertise, namely:
a) Mr. J.R Schnelzer, President Photographic Society of America Worldwide
b) Mr. John Andrew Hughes, Executive Vice President Photographic Society of America Worldwide
c) Ms. Ana Ratkovic Sobota, Croatian Freelance Artists Association (HZSU)
d) Mr. Dr. Edial Rusli S.E, M.Sn., ISI Yogyakarta
e) Mr. Dr. Sn. M. Fajar Apriyanto, M.Sn., ISI Yogyakarta
The theme of this symposium, "Photography: Art and Society," highlights the role of photography as an artistic medium that not only creates works of art, but also plays an important role in reflecting, shaping, and being influenced by social and cultural dynamics. The symposium aims to deepen the understanding of how photography can be used as a tool for social change and how photographic practices are influenced by cultural and social contexts.
The event is open to the public and is expected to attract academics, students, professional photographers, as well as the wider public who are interested in photography and art. By presenting experts from various disciplines, the symposium is expected to serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, inspiration, and constructive discussions on the future of photography in an evolving social and cultural context. The event was a collaboration between FSMR, the Photographic Society of America (PSA), and Art Photography Indonesia (API).
